Blogging Challenge Day 5

Reflective Teaching: A 30-Day Blogging Challenge For Teachers

Day 5: Post a picture of your classroom, and describe what you see –and what you don’t see that you’d like to.

This is what my room looked like on June 16 right before I started to pack stuff up for the summer. These are not the nice, clean, staged pictures that I posted last August before all the kids came. These are closer to the reality. You'll notice my desk is messy. The tables are filled with stuff. Posters are falling off the walls.

I don't really know what I'd like to see, I'm pretty happy with how it all worked out. I loved my new room this year. Having the sitting area behind my desk was my favorite part I think. It was a very comfortable room to be in and we had a lot of fun there this year.

  1. First, I am so happy to see you blogging again! You have a great classroom and I love your blog.

I'm interested in how you are using IXL. I noticed your last picture has a list for final exam review. Does your school pay for a subscription? How do you keep track of what kids do? I've seen some other teachers use IXL and I'd like to use it for review purposes throughout the year. Any input would be great!

    Thanks!

    1. My school does have a subscription for all of our kids. IXL keeps track of everything so it's easy to see exactly what they're doing. You can sign up for a free month but after that everything resets and the kids lose their scores which isn't ideal. And without accounts they can only do a couple problems before it locks them out which also isn't great. Maybe you can convince your school to look into it?

  2. Looks like a great functional set up. So jealous. You have nice big windows. I am in an interior room with no windows. I am in my nice cozy cave all day and never know what the weather is outside.

  3. I am in love with the y= posters under the board. May I ask where you found them? I was just switched to geometry and Algebra this year so I need to start all over as last year was English, the year before that science... all for low level learners. So, I'm trying to find somethings for in my room at the last minute. :) It looks so bare without my 475 books on the shelves and book jackets on the walls. BTW, I love the interactive notebooks and am going to try implementing them. Here goes nothing (well at least in 13 days).

    1. Well I found the images for them here: http://okmathteachers.com/instruction/algebra-aerobics but then I changed the text around a bit on them.

  4. Love how organized it looks! Since I graduate in May, I'm looking now for all sorts of ways to organize/decorate a learning environment and this gives me great ideas. :)
